Midsummer meltdown
Wow, hasn’t it been hot?! Apparently this is the hottest summer in NZ for the last 15 years. It must be the driest too, with the Waikato being declared a drought zone. Not good if you’re a farmer. Not so bad for us townies though. But us pregnant townies do feel the heat a bit more! Baby No.2 is at 20 weeks gestation now – we are going for another scan on Wednesday. I’m feeling fine, just experiencing the usual aches and pains in my pelvis/gluts/hamstrings.
I took a day off from motherhood (although there’s no escaping the little passenger I’ve got on board!), and went to Rotorua to watch the second round of the North Island Cross Country Cup. I met up with a few people I knew who were racing. I left my bike at home and took my camera instead (how odd!). It was nice to see some bikes being ridden really hard, by some very skilled athletes. Most impressive for me was Annika Smail from Rotorua winning the Elite Women’s race on her big-travel trail bike. She bombed through the last downhill going just as fast and taking the same difficult line as the top few Elite Men. None of the other women could match her speed or skill. Awesome. :)
