Big Blue

I picked up a new bike last week. A while ago I made the decision to sell my road bike and mountain bike, in favour of getting something a bit different. I bought a 2008 Haro Mary SS - a 29 inch wheeled singlespeed, referred to as a 29er SS.

Mary is a lovely blue colour, with swoopy bars that are much more comfortable than most people will believe - and perfect for climbing hills on a singlespeed (where you have to pull pretty hard on the bars). The big wheels are really nice to ride on - they smooth out the bumps and carry momentum very well. I haven't had a proper offroad test yet, but then that's why I got the Mary... I'm not likely to get much singletrack riding in for the next wee while. The Mary is great fun around town, up at the lake, down beside the river, or at the Pukete track. And if I feel like a change, I can throw on some slick tyres and change the gearing to create a road riding machine. I can even convert her to fixed... but more on that when I get around to trying it out.
