Preparations

I've been riding my bike a little bit in preparation for the Black Stump Adventure Ride on 14 Feb. I'm doing the 30km ride (not quite silly enough to enter the 40km ride), but haven't yet ridden more than 20kms at Pukete. And Pukete is pretty flat.
Of course I'm riding on my Mary SS (singlespeed), so after the first 20kms I'll be relying on good luck to get me through! I've made some more changes to Mary. I've added a suspension fork up front and got some new lighter tyres. The forks are Rockshox Reba's with 100mm travel and they are awesome, even if they could do with a service. The tyres are Maxxis CrossMarks in 29x2.1" (not shown in the photo). They look pretty skinny on the big wheels, and they are super fast. I need to get used to the extra speed in corners - I had a few "oh no!" moments on my ride last night. Mary now weighs 12.45kg according to the bathroom scales. Not light, but ok.
