Time Flies By

Wow! Time has really been flying by. Oliver was 7 months old on Sunday.

I managed to get out to Pukete for race 3 of the winter series. Again, it was cold and windy. The ground was really wet and slushy too, so they shortened the course and left out the section through the park. I was relieved that I wouldn't have to battle the wind again.
As usual I shot off from the start and went hell for leather, but this time it worked - I got a clear run through the "singletrack" section. I didn't really find my rhythm until about half way through the lap though, then I slid out on a small climb and lost my groove (and 2 places). There was quite a bit of sliding going on too. Parts of the track were really slushy and hard to pedal through... just little energy sucking bogs everywhere. I had no idea of time or speed as my speedo wasn't working, and I only managed 2 laps in about 33 mins. It was hard work and I was knackered though, so that's good I guess?! Just as I finished loading my bike on the car and getting some warm clothes on it poured with rain, so my timing was perfect! My bike got it's first real caking of mud and it held up well. My new front wheel is very nice... noticeably lighter than the old one.

I was also lucky enough to get out for a road ride on Sunday. It was really nice and sunny, so I couldn't resist. I chose a flat route about 30kms long out around Templeview - just enough to spin the legs and soak up some sun. I froze right through though! I think I was a bit under dressed. Booties, thermal gloves and a wind stopper vest would have been magic. Despite wearing merino socks, my toes froze and went completely numb!
